Shadwick A. Barry Jr., co-founder of OLPH R.C. Church
Shadwick A. Barry Jr., 96, of Bethlehem, died December 16, 2019. Born in Memphis, Tennesee, he was a son of the late Shadwick A. and Marion (Leslie) Barry. He was the husband of the late Joan (McKeon) Barry for 62 years.
He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Memphis. He attended Southern Law School.
He was an Aviation Metalsmith First Class in the United States Navy in both World War II (Pacific Theater) and in Korea. He was part of the Iwo Jima invasion. He was an instructor during the early months of the war.
He worked for Chicago and Southern (now Delta) Air Lines in Memphis. He worked in aviation maintenance with Westinghouse in Delaware and Kansas. He worked for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, for the aviation division with Mack Trucks and was director of special services for Northeast Jet.
After he retired, he worked part-time jobs at Box Office Video, The Mail Connection and was a courier for Oaks Printing and Harmony Press.
He was a founding member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Bethlehem.
He was a Fourth-Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Trinity Council 313. He was a member of the Edward H. Ackerman American Legion Post 397 and of the Steel Club, both in Hellertown.
He is survived by three children, S. Alex of Greenfield, Wisconsin; Patricia A. and her husband Gary L. Yoder, and Janet E.; and a daughter-in-law, Rocio VonPreysing, all of Bethlehem; and three grandsons, Christian of Weslaco, Texas; and Shadwick M. and Nathaniel H. Yoder of Bethlehem.
He was predeceased by a sister, May Elizabeth “Dub” Barry Foster.

He wanted to remind people that there is “no shame in flying the American flag,” so raise Old Glory in his honor.
