William F. Moran, Northampton County judge
The Honorable William F. Moran, 76, of Bethlehem, died Dec. 9, 2019, at Kirkland Village. Born in Buffalo, New York, he was a son of the late William F. Moran Sr. and Margaret (Elm) Moran. He was the husband of Susan (Means) Moran for 29 years.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University in 1964, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Chicago in 1967.
He was a captain in the U. S. Army with the first Infantry Division in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star, two Army Commendation Medals and The Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.
He was a member of the Northampton County Government Study Commission and was chairman of the commission from 1974 to 1976. He was a member of the initial Northampton County Council from 1978 to 1982. He was the appointed Northampton County solicitor from 1982 until 1987, when he was appointed Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in Northampton County. He was elected to a full term in 1989 after which he was re-elected for an additional ten years. He retired on January 4, 2010. He was a key figure in expanding the Easton County courthouse and in starting the Northampton County Juvenile Justice Center.
He was a member of the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges, the American, Pennsylvania and Northampton County Bar Associations, the Pennsylvania Commission of Juvenile Judges and the Bar Association.
He was a Boy Scouts of America Minsi Trails Council commissioner, the Northampton County Homemaker Health Aide Service Inc. president and a United Way of Northampton and Warren Counties vice-president. He was on the Board of Directors of the Wiley House (now KidsPeace), Burnside Plantation, Historic Bethlehem Partnership Inc. and Communities in Schools of the Lehigh Valley.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Beverly Frinzi and her husband Jeffery of Whitehall; two nephews, William Andersen and his wife Christine and their children Quinn and Carter of McMurray and Timothy Frinzi of Anaheim, California; and his wife’s extended Means family.
