Liberty boys lose to EHS in swimming
Liberty’s swim team hosted Emmaus last Thursday when the Hornets defeated the Hurricanes in boys’ results, 123-53.
In the boys’ first event of the day, Patrick Gilhool, Sean McGuire, Daniel Lader, and Addison Collins placed second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:43.65.
“I’m not disappointed that we placed second to them, but I think all of us could have swum faster. Nonetheless, I think we all tried our best today and we had a good meet,” said Lader, one of four senior captains for the boys’ team.
“I think one thing a lot of people don’t understand is that most of the time, meets are won in practice. It’s about putting in the hours of hard work and time in the pool, so keeping team morale up, making sure everyone knows what they’re supposed to do, I think those are my main responsibilities as captain.”
Collins won the 100 free with a time of 50.45, and McGuire won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.93.
Gilhool, Lader, Ben Service, and Collins took second place in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:29.07.
“We had some tough competitors today, and I think one of them set a pool record,” said Lader, who also swam the 500 free and the 100 fly.
“I started out swimming distance because I was a first-year swimmer my freshman year and distance is a good event for a lot of first-year swimmers because it builds up muscle memory. Last year was my first year swimming butterfly, and the technique came to me easily, so even though they’re different techniques, I’d say they’re deceivingly different.”
Second place finishers for the Hurricanes were Collins in the 200 IM and Gilhool in the 100 backstroke. Trevor Lenig was third in the 200 free, Caleb Stein was third in the 50 free, and Gilhool took third in the 100 fly.
