Voting privacy gets addressed

“You guys are awesome!” said Mike Drabenstott when addressing the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners Nov. 26. Drabenstott is the Chairman of the Board of the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor. He was thanking the Lehigh County Commissioners for their support.

Chief Clerk for Registration and Elections Timothy Benyo told commissioners the additional privacy screens and booths are planned for future elections. Lack of privacy was one of the major complaints heard from voters after the last election.

Commissioners approved the updated Lehigh County Comprehensive Plan, “Future LV: The Regional Plan which had been presented at the last meeting by members of the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission.

Commissioner Marty Nothstein was absent from the meeting; he was also absent for the Nov. 13 meeting.

Also approved were sale of two properties owned by Lehigh County at 4014 S. 2nd St. ($17,500) and 4052 S. 2nd St. ($41,900) both in Emmaus.

In a first reading (voting will be normally at the next meeting), was a bill establishing the Lehigh County Property Assessed Clean Energy Program. The program shall apply to building owners within Lehigh County and be known as the “Lehigh County C-PACE Program” or Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy Program. The program allows building owners to obtain low-cost, long-term financing for energy efficiency equipment, low-flow plumbing products and renewable energy projects.

Billing assessments with be added to the property tax bills of the property owner.
