LHS enters new era

Liberty wrestling is entering a new era with head coach Brandon Hall taking over the reigns for longtime Liberty boss Jody Karam.

With the former Freedom coach coming into his ninth season overall leading a program, Hall has expectations lined up for him, but is also ready for the challenge of leading the Hurricane program, that enjoyed a 19-4 season a year ago.

With Liberty losing a lot of experience to graduation last year, this year’s team may have its share of growing pains, but Hall won’t let that build in as an excuse.

This year’s group features returning wrestlers Connor Werner (Jr., 106); Niazi Ansar (Sr., 120); Jason Rezac (Sr., 145) and Kevin Hennessy (Sr., 170/182).

New wrestlers include Javien DeLeon (So., 113); Ryan Santiago (Fr., 126); Christian Reid (So., 152) and Jackson Marcantonio (Jr., 138/145).

“We are extremely young with limited varsity experience,” said Hall. “But the goals are still the same. We expect to compete every time we step on the mat. We will continue to improve each week with the ultimate goals of peaking for post seasons medals. I think staying healthy and focusing on the process of becoming better wrestlers every day will be key to achieving our goals.”
