Shop till you drop on Small Business Saturday

Jessica O’Donnell, executive vice president of affiliated chambers, Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, kicked off the Small Business Saturday celebration Nov. 30 in Catasauqua.

The local event featured businesses from around the borough and centered on Front Street as the hub of activity. Catasauqua Main Streets, the borough’s business organization, and the Chamber are working to revamp the area and bring fresh life to the community.

The event started at Blondies Cupcakes, where Rebecca Gillespie had a crafts event for young shoppers-in-training. Cathy’s Creative Catering and Lisa Haynos of Bridge Street Family Restaurant had food available for purchase. Blocker’s Coffeehouse was open so there was a comfortable place to sit and eat.

Taylor House Brewing Company, Tony’s Top Cat Bar & Grill and Catty Corner Neighborhood Pub & Pie all had offers for those who wanted to relax after shopping.

The pop-up stores were in Melvin’s Farm Stand, 327 Front St.

“We want to sell fresh produce here and do the pop-up shops on the weekends,” said Vincent Smith, who will manage the place with Melissa Brown.

The concept is to bring more specialty retailers into the borough.

The Chamber had a ribbon cutting for Melvin’s Farm Stand as part of the day’s festivities. Santa and his elf even came by to take photos with children and pets.
