Dr. John J. Ryan Jr., 82, of Bethlehem, died suddenly November 14, 2019, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill. Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late John J. Sr. and Iona (Waschko) Ryan. He was the husband of Faith Ann (McEnrue) Ryan for 40 years.
He graduated and earned a bachelor of science degree from Mt. St. Mary’s College and a master’s degree from Lehigh University. He graduated as a medical doctor of Pulmonary Medicine from Hahnemann University Hospital.
He was in the U. S. Navy, where he was detached to the Marines. He was a physician in Vietnam.
He worked with St. Luke’s Hospital for 39 years.
He was a parishioner of Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church, Bethlehem, where he was on the retreat ministry team.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John J. Ryan III (Diane) of Sarasota, Florida and Mark Ryan of Bethlehem; two daughters, Colleen Gorsky (Patrick) of Easton and Amy Janczuk (Christopher) of Baltimore, Maryland; a sister, Dorothy “Mickey” Roe of Warminster; five grandchildren and one on the way; and two great-grandchildren and one on the way.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Kelly Ryan; and a sister, Iona Zimmerman.
