Students and staff welcomed and honored several dozen veterans at the Miller Heights Elementary School’s 19th annual Veterans Day program Nov. 12.
“Thank you veterans for coming. Your attendance helps our students understand how important this day is,” Principal Deborah Roeder said.
Miller Heights fifth grade students performed a number of patriotic readings and songs to honor veterans who were present and elsewhere. Students from each grade delivered hand-written letters which are forwarded to veterans and active service members.
Musicians and singers from both Liberty and Freedom high schools provided instrumental and sung patriotic music.
During the “Armed Forces Medley,” veterans who served in the Army, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard and Air Force stood to be recognized. They were treated to light refreshments upon conclusion of the program.
