State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-133rd, will join Fountain Hill and Salisbury Township in sponsoring a free shredding and electronics recycling event 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 16 in the parking lot of Harry S Truman Elementary School, 1400 Gaskill St., Salisbury Township.

“Shredding is a great way to ensure your personal and financial documents are safely and securely disposed of to prevent identity fraud,” McNeill said. “Plus, this year’s event will be a perfect opportunity to safely get rid of your old, unwanted electronics to help ensure harmful chemicals don’t pollute our environment.”

Participants must be a resident of the 133rd District and proof of residency will be required.

Those residents can bring their unwanted electronics, as well as any documents to be shredded to this year’s event. There is no fee for items such as computers, monitors, DVD and video players or gaming systems, but there is a fee for televisions. There is a limit of 10 boxes of documents per vehicle.

McNeill and her staff will also provide information about state programs such as the Children’s Health Insurance Program, Medicaid, Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program and information on preventing identity theft from the Attorney General’s Office.

The Harry S Truman Elementary School PTO is sponsoring a fall vendor fair at SHS 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Nov. 16. There will be crafters, vendors, a basket raffle and food. Admission is free so come out and start, or finish, that holiday shopping.

On Nov. 20, The St. Luke’s University Health Network will host an event for the Salisbury community. This will be a conversation on mental health. This will be a great chance to talk with experts in the field and have questions answered. This event will be held in the SHS library 7-8 p.m.

The next HST T-shirt day will be Nov. 21. Don’t forget your leadership shirt.

HST and Western Salisbury Elementary School will have early dismissals, dismissing 1 p.m. Nov. 21 through 26 for parent/teacher conferences. Please remember to sign up for conferences at HST using the signupgenius website sent home. Salisbury Middle School will have early dismissals, also for parent/teacher conferences Nov. 22 through 26.

All Salisbury Township schools will have early dismissals Nov. 27 for the beginning of the Thanksgiving break. SHS and SMS will dismiss 12:15 p.m. and HST and WSE will dismiss 1 p.m. All township schools will be closed Nov. 28 through Dec. 2. All schools will resume normal school hours Dec. 3.

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, Inc. is in desperate need of officials/referees/umpires. In recent years, baseball umpires in District XI have dropped from 165 to 105. In general, all sports need officials. If you would consider becoming a PIAA official, they will teach you all you need to know. Applicants must be 18 years old or a high school graduate. The Franko Farm yard waste drop-off site will be open 8 a.m to 1 p.m. Nov. 23 and 26.

Updates on leaf collection in the township are available at www.salisburytownshippa.org. The latest update is from Nov. 7: “As of Nov. 7 there will be one leaf collection crew in Buckingham, moving toward Meadowbrook. The self-contained unit will be in the Devonshire area. The second leaf collection crew is starting in the Fountain Hill area and moving toward the streets around Daisy Hill Market.”
