Fountain Hill resident celebrates 100th birthday, high school graduation

Ruth Behler knows it’s never too late for a dream to come true. Ruth Behler, a resident of Cedarbrook Fountain Hill, celebrated her 100th birthday recently and received her high school diploma.

Behler, who grew up during the Great Depression, had to drop out of school in order to work and support her family. It remained her greatest regret in life, but fortunately the Cedarbrook Dream Catchers, the Cedarbrook Fountain Hill chapter of the Second Wind Dreams charity, was ready to act.

Second Wind Dreams, an international organization that specializes in granting senior wishes, has a local chapter at each Cedarbrook campus, comprised of current and prior employees.

Dream Catchers contacted Palmerton HS, and the principal proudly presented Behler with an honorary diploma capping off her 100th birthday.

Ruth said she was extremely honored to receive her diploma and grateful for the assistance of Second Wind Dreams. When asked the secret to a long and healthy life, she said “work hard and keep going.”

Cedarbrook Senior Care and Rehabilitation practices the care philosophy of C.H.O.I.C.E.S. which stands for a community with heart offering individualized care and exceptional service.

“We’re so proud of Ruth for these milestones - her 100th Birthday and receiving her high school diploma. It’s moments like these that demonstrate the sense of community and human connection that our nursing homes seek to foster. Our Cedarbrook homes are filled with wonderful residents like Ruth, and dedicated current and retired employees that help make dreams like this happen,” said Jason Cumello, Cedarbrook administrator.

Cumello, Michelle Julian, assistant administrator, and all of Cedarbrook and Lehigh County wish Ruth a Happy Birthday! Cedarbrook was recently recognized in Newsweek as one of the top 20 skilled nursing facilities in Pennsylvania and one of the top facilities in the nation.
