Do you remember walking around your school in your Halloween costume for the parent parade? I do, and I remember thinking it was kind of like a practice for trick or treating. Could I see through my plastic mask? Was my plastic pumpkin large enough to hold all the candy I would be getting? Well, that day for the current Harry S Truman Elementary School and Western Salisbury Elementary School students is almost here. Friends and family may gather in the grass around the front of the buildings and the parade begins 2 p.m. Oct. 25.
A free presentation on “Using Technology Wisely” will be held 6 p.m. Oct. 28 in the Salisbury High School auditorium. Topics include cyber-bullying and sexting. Please RSVP to the high school if you plan to attend.
Picture retake day for SHS will be Oct. 30, which is also the end of the first marking period. Wow, that went fast.
Also Oct. 30, physicals will be held for any student in sixth through 12th grade who is interested in playing a winter sport. Boys begin 5 p.m, girls 5:45 p.m. at SHS. Enter at Door #2 by the old gym. Please arrive 15 minutes early to make sure all paperwork is filled out correctly. The paperwork is available in both the main and athletic offices. Nov. 1 will be an early 1 p.m. dismissal day for both HST and WSE. The high school and Salisbury Middle School dismiss at normal time.
On Nov 5, all Salisbury Township schools are closed for teacher professional development and Election Day.
Trick or treat night for Salisbury Township will be 6-8 p.m. Oct. 25.
Students, families, veterans and community members are welcome to attend a veterans day program at SHS, 500 E. Montgomery St., Allentown, Nov. 11.
The event includes patriotic music by the Salisbury band and chorus 4:30 to 5 p.m. A complimentary dinner will be provided 5 to 6 p.m. Special presentations will be provided by veterans from World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Cold War, Persian Gulf and the War on Terror.

Curbside leaf collection for Salisbury Township residents will begin in the fifth ward Oct. 28 and continue eastward through mid-December. Please place leaves on the side of the road and away from any vehicles. An update on where the crews are working will be listed at www.salisburytownshippa.org every Friday.
The Devonshire Drop-off will be open Nov. 2 and 5. Hours of operation for Salisbury residents are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday and Saturday of the month.
