Microbrewery hosts wing-eating contest

One of the popular food trucks that gets invited to Taylor House Brewing Company, 76 Lehigh St., Catasauqua, is Buck’s BBQ.

“We always get good reviews when we invite them to set up,” said Annette Pompa, co-owner of the business.

Buck’s returned the compliment by holding a wing-eating contest Sept. 28.

“They have some pretty big wings,” said second-place finisher Jarred Barno.

The wings are a popular item on the menu. The standard basket has six wings. They are smoked and then put on the hot coals. Buck’s BBQ travels around the Lehigh Valley sharing its unique menu. The brisket sandwich is another popular dish.

Robert Finney, owner of Buck’s BBQ, and TJ Kressley, a frequent patron at Taylor House Brewing Company, served as judges.

Contestants Justin Talianek, Richard Archdeacon, Jarred Barno and Karlin Mai ponied up the entrance fee and scarfed down their portion of wings under pressure from the ticking clock.

Talianek walked away with the first prize after 20 wings. After the contest, he revealed he was an experienced contest participant.
