At its regular meeting Oct. 16, Hanover Township Council approved a bid of $133,300 for curbing along Troxell Street.
The street has been plagued with sinkholes and water leaks for years. The program to repave the street will start with this curbing project. Portions of the street will be rebuilt from the base up, while other portions will be a mill and overlay process.
Mark Thomas returned to council to address the board regarding his request for a resolution to support Fair District Pennsylvania.
At council’s last meeting, Thomas and his peer Terry Schettini presented the proposal to council.
At this meeting, Councilman Rick Tocci explained his opposition to the idea.
“The Pennsylvania Constitution assigns the job of redistricting to the legislature, and that makes sense,” Tocci said. “If the districts are poorly configured, then the electorate can change the makeup of the legislature. The committee of unbiased citizens you propose would not be accountable for their actions. I doubt they would truly be unbiased.”
Councilman Michael Woolley argued in favor of the resolution. Woolley proposed council adopt a resolution supporting Thomas, but the measure failed to get a second and was rejected.
Council reviewed its capital spending budget for 2020 to start the township’s budgeting process and appointed Stephanie Murray and Alex Twombly to the Hanover Township Planning Commission.
Council also extended the required completion time for improvements at Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority at hangar 11. The agreement was extended to July 2020. The primary concern is related to problems in the foundation.
