Northampton Borough Council will invite Hanover Township, Lehigh County, to send a representative to a conference with FedEx Ground officials to remedy a problem with box trucks traveling on nondesignated roads to and from the warehouse off Willowbrook Road in Allen Township.
Northampton is adding Hanover Township to the mix of municipalities to meet with FedEx since it is also impacted by the heavy truck traffic. Others invited include Allen Township and North Catasauqua and Catasauqua boroughs.
During the Oct. 3 meeting, Councilman Robert McHale, who chaired a citizens forum of borough residents whose homes are mostly in the Howertown Road corridor, questioned when such a confab will take place.
Borough Manager LeRoy Brobst said he expects to hear from FedEx representatives about when the meeting can be held. The groups can then work together to come up with recommendations on keeping the trucks off residential streets and roads not approved for such large vehicles.
“The 2019 paving program is proceeding on schedule, including paving in North Catasauqua as part of the agreement for its contribution toward the purchase of the paving machine,” Brobst said, moving on to other business.
McHale, who heads the public works/sewer committee, reported the planning for the upgrade of the main pump station at the sewer plant has been expanded to include the electrical design necessary to accomplish the project.
Also at the meeting, council accepted a request from Frederick Stubits, an employee at the wastewater treatment plant, to retire Oct. 31.
“He will be missed,” Brobst said. “He served the borough exceptionally well for 39 years.”
