EASTERN SALISBURY COLUMN
School routines are settling in and the weather is actually starting to feel like fall. With that, it’s my favorite month...October!
School events are in full force and we start the early dismissals for the year.
All students in the Salisbury Township School District will dismiss early Oct. 18. Salisbury High School and Salisbury Middle School will dismiss 12:15 p.m. and Harry S Truman Elementary School and Western Salisbury Elementry School will dismiss 1 p.m. If there are any changes to dismissal procedures for any elementary students, please notify the respective schools of your plans in a timely manner.
Oct. 21 will be photo retake day for SMS. Any student who was absent or who isn’t in love with their school photos can have another chance for that “perfect picture.”
The next Coffee and Conversation will be held at SHS 8:15-9 a.m. Oct. 22.
The next HST T-shirt day will be Oct. 24. Show off those Falcon proud leadership shirts!
The HST PTO is sponsoring the annual book fair Oct. 25 to Nov. 1. Students will be able to shop during their library times and an evening shopping time will be held for families 6-8 p.m. Oct. 29. Stop by and pick up a new book.
The annual HST Halloween parade will be held 2 p.m. Oct. 25. The parade typically lasts 15-20 minutes and is a parent and community favorite. A note for all those who come to celebrate this event, you are asked to stay on the grassy areas so all paved areas can be kept clear for the children and staff to walk. All spectators are asked to refrain from wearing scary attire or masks as well. HST students will also have their Halloween celebration either before or after this parade. If you are offering to provide a classroom treat, please remember to refer to the approved snack list to ensure the safety of all HST students.
Speaking of Halloween, Salisbury Township will hold trick or treat 6-8 p.m. Oct. 25. If you are driving on the township streets at this time, please be aware and alert for children out and about. Children are also encouraged to be with an adult or in groups and to wear something reflective as well as carry a flashlight.
SHS will hold a presentation regarding using technology wisely 7 p.m. Oct. 28. This presentation will be held in the high school auditorium and will focus on cyberbullying and sexting. Stop by to learn how to prevent and report and identify events.
SYA wrestling registrations are now open. Registration is available online at syasports.net/wrestling. There is an early registration fee prior to Oct. 21. Any questions can be sent to Tom Spinner at wrestlingsya@gmail.com.
On Oct. 30, SHS will offer winter athletic physicals for any student wishing to play a winter sport. Please note this is not for Salisbury Youth Association.
