At the end of its workshop meeting Oct. 9, the East Allen Township Board of Supervisors conducted an in-depth review of its 2020 budget. The budget will be posted once it is approved.
The board did discuss increasing the services of the zoning officer. Presently, the officer is in the office for three days and is not able to keep up with the demand. There is an option to hire an additional zoning officer, but the cost for another permanent employee is questionable.
Supervisor Mark Schwartz suggested increasing the zoning officer’s time in the township office to four days.
Codemasters is the township’s selected building code enforcement agency. The agency provides the zoning officer. According to Township Manager Brent Green, most calls coming into the township office are for the zoning officer.
The issue will be voted on at the next meeting.
Green announced township staff are working to make local changes so the township can comply with the International Fire Code. There are certain areas of the existing codes that seem to have benefits the township wants to incorporate into new ordinances.
Green also announced the 2020 Northampton County budget and capital improvements plan is available for review on the county website, northamptoncounty.org.
The deterioration of the property at 5580 Weaversville Road is still a concern for neighbors, but the township is expected to be in front of a judge in late October to get the legal status resolved.
Township Engineer James Milot reported he awarded the contract for a new signal at Hanoverville and Airport roads. He did caution the project will take same time because the preparation for the mast arms and site work is extensive.
