Dogs with the Defenders a hit
On Sept. 19, Catasauqua Police Department held its monthly community outreach event. This time, Catasauqua residents were invited to enjoy hot dogs at Blondies, 333 Front St., Catasauqua, for Dogs with the Defenders.
For the past year and a half, the police department has been organizing these gatherings at local restaurants or other venues, with the hope of making a stronger bond with the community it serves.
Events like this provide a friendly environment where everyone can come together without the stress that usually accompanies a visit from the police.
“It’s nice to see people when everyone’s happy,” said Douglas Kish, police chief. “Usually, we see people at their worst - burglaries, domestic disputes, etc.”
Dogs with the Defenders was particularly successful, with over two dozen residents filing into Blondies to enjoy the good company and excellent hot dogs from co-owner Chad Gillespie.
The venue is changed every month, both for variety and to fairly promote the many borough establishments.
In October, there will be Coffee with the Cops at Blocker’s Coffeehouse, 309 Front St.
November will see a return to Taylor House Brewing Company, 76 Lehigh St., for Booze with the Bobbies.
Cookies with the Cops and Santa is scheduled at Catasauqua Borough Hall, 90 Bridge St., in December.
Another popular spot is Pie’s On Pizzeria, Front and Pine streets, for Pizza with the Police.
The events are usually scheduled for the third Thursday of the month, with final dates announced on Catasauqua Police Department’s Facebook page.
