Hallman, Smalley medal at leagues

Two Northwestern Lehigh golfers earned league medals Monday at the Colonial League golf championships, held at Bethlehem Municipal.

Luke Hallman shot 79 for fifth place overall, while Gabby Smalley carded a 90 for second place in the girls tournament.

Both Tigers are now exempt from the district qualifying tournament and earned places in the October 7 District Championship Tournament.

Ben Ortwein (Notre Dame GP) won the tournament in a playoff with Palmerton’s Tyler Hager after both shot 78.

Hallman, one of three players tied at 79, finished just one shot off the lead.

“I actually played with the kid who won,” he said. “We were both even the whole day. It was good competition. It was fun.

“I just came in trying to take it one shot at a time and go from there.”

Smalley finished four shots back from winner Grace Sanborn (Moravian Academy).

“I am happy with how I played,” said Smalley. “I definitely came into it wanting to take every shot as it came. . I was pretty happy with how I was mindset-wise today.”

Northwestern’s Joey Frey also played in the league tournament, shooting 88 to tie for 24th place. Jake Dellicker carded a 98 and tied for 38th place. Tiger teammate Aiden Remaley shot 103 and tied for 41st place in the event.

Moravian Academy won the team title with a score of 413. Palmerton (427) was second with Southern Lehigh (430) third and Bangor (460) fourth out of the four teams that qualified for the team playoff.
