’Canes eye D-11 berth
Liberty will be looking to lock up a playoff berth this week, as the Hurricanes are sitting on the cusp of a District 11 spot with seven games to play.
The Hurricanes (8-3) have split their last six games after a 5-0 start, suffering one goal defeats to Easton (9-1), Pocono Mountain East (10-0-1) and Parkland (9-0).
All three of those teams, along with Emmaus (10-0), have already clinched district berths and are in the top tier of teams in the area.
Liberty hopes that they can join them in that category, despite their recent string of narrow defeats.
“We took a lot away from the losses respectively and it taught us the resilience we need to be able to get back to work and bounce back,” said head coach Jill Dorn. “Our Parkland loss taught us that we are fighters but we came up short. We have cleaned up some little things and tried to hit home the importance of the speed at which we make decisions, but also having the patience to execute those decisions at the right time.”
With Allen (1-9), Pleasant Valley (3-8) and East Stroudsburg North (1-9) on tap for this week, it’s safe to say that Liberty won’t have a problem clinching a playoff berth.
Dorn just wants the group to keep progressing, because those matchups with the top teams will come again.
“When we combine everything together I have no doubt that between myself, the staff, and the team that we will all be in a prime position come playoff time,” said Dorn.
Freedom (4-8) looks like they’ll be out of the playoff mix, barring a late season push. The Pates snapped a five-game skid last week with a 6-0 win over Pocono Mountain West, but have matchups with PME and Bethlehem Catholic this week.
The Hawks (6-5) have played tough as of late, dropping a pair of 2-1 affairs to Stroudsburg and PME, while picking up a 3-1 win over East Stroudsburg South last week.
They face Parkland, Freedom and Nazareth this week with the hope of solidifying their chances of clinching a District 11 spot.
