WESTERN SALISBURY COLUMN

Calling all Salisbury Falcon alumni - Homecoming is just around the corner! Are you coming to the parade and the game?

I am not a Salisbury alum, but I married one and have a friend who lives on the parade route, so I am looking forward to attending my first Salisbury Homecoming Parade. The parade starts 5:15 p.m. Oct. 4 at the administration building, winds through town and ends at Salisbury High School. After that, stick around for the football game against Northern Lehigh and cheer on the team. Go Falcons!

The Homecoming dance will be held 7-10 p.m. Oct. 5 in the high school gym.

Does your son or daughter vape? Do they have friends who vape? SHS is teaming with St. Luke’s University Health Network to present a seminar on the dangers of vaping and e-cigarettes. With more and more students trying this, parents need to be informed. Come out and learn the risks.

SHS has also teamed with the Center for Humanistic Change for a presentation on heroin and opioid prevention education.

The presentation will be held 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 17 at the high school. Parents and guardians will learn about heroin and opioids and how they are used, be able to recognize signs and symptoms of use, understand addiction as a brain disease, learn about the effects of use on health, relationships and life and be able to identify local resources, including how and where to find help.

The guidance office of SHS will host a financial aid night 6:30 p.m. Sept. 30 in the high school library. A representative from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency will be on hand to answer any questions you might have about filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or any other questions related to paying for college. If you are planning to attend, RSVP to Sally Martinez at smartinez@salisburysd.org. I have filled out the FAFSA many times with my boys and although it is a little time consuming, getting those grants to help with college tuition bills makes it all worthwhile. This seminar is very informative.

There is an operations committee meeting 7 p.m. Oct. 2 at the administration building and a school board meeting 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9, also at the administration building.

The Devonshire drop-off will be open Oct. 1 and 5. Hours of operation for Salisbury residents are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday and Saturday of the month.
