EASTERN SALISBURY COLUMN
The back to school events are slowly coming to an end and hopefully everyone is falling back into the routine. There are still a number of events going on, and fundraisers are in full swing or awaiting delivery.
A HOPE presentation, developed in response to the growing concern about heroin and opioid abuse in the Lehigh Valley, will be held at Salisbury High School 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 17. The presentation will be made by The Center for Humanistic Change. Attendees will learn how heroin and opiods are used, will be able to recognize signs and symptoms of use, understand addiction as a brain disease, learn about the effects of use on health, relationships and life and be able to identify local resources, including how and where to find help.
The fall curbside branch collection program begins this week. Residents should place the branches at the curb. Branches may be no longer than 5 feet long and 5 inches in diameter. Branches should be bundled and tied with twine. Open containers (no lids) can be used for small branches.
There will be a dual enrollment meeting at SHS 6 p.m. Sept. 19. Come learn about additional learning opportunities for your students as they take college level classes at a greatly reduced price.
The SHS open house will be 6:45-8:45 p.m. Sept. 19. This is a good time to meet your student’s teachers for the current school year.
Harry S Truman Elementary School will hold its picture day Sept. 23. Look for order forms to be sent home with your student in the near future.
The Salisbury Township School District will hold its regular meeting 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 in the administration building.
The next curriculum and technology meeting will be held 7 p.m. Sept. 23 in the administration building.
Salisbury Middle School will hold its book fair Sept. 23 through 25. Encourage your SMS students to look around and see if there are any books that peak their interest.
SHS will hold a financial aid night 6:30 p.m. Sept. 30 to discuss the ins and outs of applying for financial aid.
For residents with children in the Salisbury Township School District, if you have not heard there is a NEW “app for that.” Download the new “In your pocket” app. It is a live feed with everything going on in the district. Once fully implemented, it will also replace the school messenger phone calls. I’m sorta excited about that!
The Franko Farm yard waste drop-off site will be open 8 a.m to 1 p.m. Sept. 21 and 24.
