Holy Trinity holds Blessing of Angels

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church held a Blessing of Angels ceremony at Catasauqua Park and Playground, 501 American St., Sept. 8. This is the second year for the event.

“It helps those of us who have friends that are ailing to get the prayers they need to feel better,” Pastor Brian Riedy said of the ceremony.

This year, Dan O’Donnell, of O’Donnell Funeral Homes, sponsored the event. Susan Alexander, of Soul Creations Fly, supplied the crafts.

Alexander’s story is interesting. Soul Creations Fly started as Hearts for Hope after 9/11. Rescue workers received their well-earned wings. She continues to make wings for veterans around Veterans Day.

Everyone received a ceramic set of angel wings and a set of pipe stems to create an angel. The wings were painted and then sealed once dry.

While some took their wings and angels home or to a loved one, others donated their wings to Holy Trinity’s a cappella group, Threshold Choir, which travels around to hospice centers. Choir members take angel wings with them and distribute them to the hospice patients.

The church youth group also got involved with their special creations.

Freda Oravetz shows the angel wings she designed during Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church's Blessing of Angels ceremony, held Sept. 8 at Catasauqua Park and Playground, 501 American St.
