The Northwestern girls cross country team opened the season with a successful showing at the Moravian Academy Lions Invitational.
The Tigers were the top-finishing Class 2A team at the event and earned third place overall behind Council Rock North (68 points) and Abington Heights (102). Northwestern finished well ahead of its two biggest District 11 Class 2A rivals in Blue Mountain (fourth place, 131) and Notre Dame of Green Pond (fifth, 163).
Tiger freshman Angelina Klein led the way for her team, finishing sixth overall in 20:39.99. Senior Allison Costa also earned a top-10 finish and medal for taking ninth overall. Maci Fisher, another freshman, took 15th place, followed by junior Kailyn Jones (30th) and freshman Claire Costa (52nd) to round out the top five. Also running in the meet for Northwestern were freshman Alexis Vennera (58th) and junior Madison Santana (75th).
The Northwestern boys team took fourth place overall at the meed, finishing behind Nazareth Area (43 points), Holy Ghost Prep (102) and Blue Mountain (124).
The Tigers ran in a tight pack in the field of 123 boys.
Freshman Matthew Santana was Northwestern’s top finisher in 18th place with a time of 18:07. Sophomore Cole Chukoskie (29th), junior RJ Zack (30th), sophomore Joseph Chukoskie (33rd) and senior Joseph Pleban (35th) rounded out the top five. Also running for the Tiger boys team were sophomore Nathan Vincent (43rd) and freshman Sam Bower (50th).
