WESTERN SALISBURY COLUMN

Western Salisbury Fire Department will host its 60th anniversary Community Day. Come out 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14 to Green Acres Park. There will be a bounce house, games, face painting, Balloons the Clown and fire trucks on display. Also, on tap will be a bake sale, fire extinguisher training and a fire safety house. A collection of canned goods for a local food bank will be going on all day. Bring the little ones out to this great community event.

Western Salisbury Elementary School will open its doors for two back to school nights. Parents and guardians of students in grades three to five are welcome to visit their child’s teacher 7-8:30 p.m. Sept. 12. Parents and guardians of students in kindergarten through second grade may visit 7-8:30 p.m. Sept. 17.

Salisbury Township School District will have an early dismissal Sept. 13. The high school and middle school will dismiss 12:15 p.m. with Harry S Truman Elementary School and WSE students exiting 1 p.m.

The Salisbury field hockey team will host a clothing drive. Drop off clothes, shoes, accessories and household linens in boxes or bags at Salisbury High School between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sept. 14. Clean out your closets and support a good cause.

The PTA of WSE is inviting all families to a welcome back barbecue 4-7 p.m. Sept. 14 at Lindberg Park. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided and a sign-up genius has been set up for attendees to contribute a side dish or dessert. Sounds like a good time.

The Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church community breakfast returns 8-11 a.m. Sept. 14. This month’s breakfast will have a back-to-school theme. In addition to the regular menu of eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast, English muffins, toast, hash browns, coffee, tea and juice, there will be zucchini quiche, banana oat pancakes, vanilla peach coffee cakes and pumpkin scones with a spiced glaze. A donation is suggested. All proceeds benefit the CROP Walk.

Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church will host a concert of the Pioneer Band of Allentown 2 p.m. Sept. 15. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy this outdoor concert.

Salisbury Township will start the fall curbside branch collection the week of Sept. 16. Township residents need to place their branches at their curb after 6 p.m. Sept. 15. Branches must be shorter than 5 feet long and smaller than 5 inches in diameter and tied together with twine. Small branches may be placed in an open container.

The Devonshire drop-off will be open Sept. 17 and 21. Hours of operation for Salisbury residents are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday and Saturday of the month.
