A resident with a sidewalk waiver request had the request denied at the Sept. 3 Macungie Borough Council meeting. This resident has a three month time period to develop a plan to work around the problem. The problem revolves around a tree which has been declared healthy by an arborist and relocation of utility fixtures. The resident has proposed an alternative which includes a bump out onto Route 100 which will need Pennsylvania Department of Transportation approval, saying the proposed bump out will have additional benefits of calming traffic and include a better way of controlling water. This will also eliminate the need to relocate utilities.
There was also a discussion on how this project would be handled financially. Initially, the developer of Macungie Commons which is the neighboring property would assist with payment of the project. This proposal has to be verified.
Several bids were received for the sewer manhole project. PIM Corp. had the lowest bid of $101,000 which the borough will pay through a capital loan.
A resident on Church Street is seeking a sewer fee waiver. This was granted and approved through council with Lehigh County Authority waiving the fee to the borough.
An executive session was held on personnel matters.
State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th, will host a town hall meeting 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Lower Macungie Community Center.
The railroad crossing on Route 100 on Main Street in Macungie will be closed 9 p.m. Sept. 13 and re-open 6 a.m. Sept. 16.
