John J. Sommer, 90, of Whitehall, died Aug. 24, 2019, at Cedarbrook Nursing Home, Fountain Hill. He was the husband of Mary (Sacks) Sommer for 64 years.
He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Heindl) Sommer.
He was a Central Catholic High School graduate.
He was a mechanic and foreman at a textile mill. He played accordion and keyboard for polka bands.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Whitehall.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Rosemary and her husband Ed Eroh of Danielsville and Patricia Sommer and Diane and her husband Bill Lucarelli, all of Colorado; four grandchildren, Corinne, Christopher, Dante and Gianna; two sisters, Mary Jandrasits and Margaret Bannon; and three brothers, Anthony, Edward and Dennis.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Alfred.
There will be a calling hour 9:30-10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial 10:30 a.m., Oct. 19 at the church, 3024 S. Ruch St., Whitehall.
