Student honored for excellence at University of Scranton

Rama N. Karadsheh of Allentown was among the 64 members of The University of Scranton’s undergraduate class of 2019 honored for academic excellence, service or both.

The awards were presented May 24 at class night.

Students with the highest GPA in each of the University’s three undergraduate colleges were presented Frank J. O’Hara Awards for General Academic Excellence, a memorial to the late administrator who served the University for 53 years.

Karadsheh, recipient of the Excellence in Biochemistry Award and the American Chemical Society Award, earned a Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry with a minor in Arabic and a concentration in nutrition.

She was also named to the fall 2018 and this spring’s dean’s list.

A member of the Phi Lambda Upsilon Honor Society, she also participated in the Chemistry Club and intramural volleyball. She founded and was secretary for Scranton Random Acts of Kindness Club.

She served as a tutor for the University’s Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence, and as a writer for Her Campus, an online publication.

She also participated in the Faculty Student Research Program at Scranton, working with Katherine Stumpo Ph.D., assistant professor of chemistry.

After graduation, she will attend Drexel University, Philadelphia, to pursue a Ph.D. in biochemistry.

She is a graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School.
