MACUNGIE BOROUGH COUNCIL
The monthly police report was discussed at the Aug. 19 Macungie Borough Council meeting.
Council asked Macungie Police Officer in Charge Sgt. Travis Kocher questions about the police report provided to council. Kocher answered council’s questions and said some arrests in the borough take 20 minutes while others may take three hours.
In other business, Macungie Volunteer Fire department Treasurer Thomas Bailey, of Bailey and Associates, attended the meeting and made himself available for questions about the financial records of the fire department. There was a report filed but no questions were asked.
Emmaus Public Library is hosting an Autumn Social 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 27 at Brookside Country Club, 901 Willow Lane, Macungie. The fundraiser will include wine tasting with hors d’oeuvres and chocolate. All proceeds with benefit the library.
A zoning officer has been chosen. Jon Peterson has a degree in mechanical engineering and is an alternate on the Allentown Zoning Board. He will be accepted upon background check completion.
Michael Waldron, with ACELA Engineering, appeared before council with a presentation about the MS4 and pollutant reduction plan projects.
The search for a borough manager continues. It was suggested council members make note of five things they are looking for in a borough manager.
The sidewalk waiver request will be decided in September. There has been no further action on this since the residents last appeared at a meeting.
The railroad tracks on Main Street in Macungie will be closed 6 p.m. Sept. 13 to 5 a.m. Sept. 16 for track repair. A detour route has not been established at this time.
Phase 2 of the Streetscape project is nearing completion and Phase 3 will begin soon. Both Streetscape projects are similar with tree planting, light installation and sidewalk pavers being the main focus. The difference is that Phase 2 is from Race Street to Lea Street and Phase 3 is from Lea Street to Chestnut Street.
