Joseph D. Murphy, 70, of North Catasauqua, died Aug. 12, 2019, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. He was the husband of the late Carol A. (Brown) Murphy.

Born in Northampton, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Elizabeth (Kern) Murphy.

He graduated from Catasauqua High School in 1966. He had an associates in chemical technology from Lehigh Carbon Community College.

He was a Vietnam-era U.S. Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Saratoga as a plane captain and line division supervisor.

He was a sales representative for RCN for over 20 years. Before that, he worked for Air Products.

He was a PIAA basketball referee for more than 30 years and was a college-level referee for more than 10 years.

He is survived by two sons, Joseph J. and Hunter S.; and two grandsons, Cody Murphy and Brayden Irwin.

He was predeceased by two sons, Kevin and Charles Golemon.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
