Can you believe that the first day of school is fast approaching?

The school year will begin with an orientation day Aug. 26 for students in grades kindergarten, sixth and ninth only. The day is great for the students new to a building to get acclimated and learn the layout of the land without all the other students there. Plus, it’s only a half day! The high school and middle school will dismiss 12:15 p.m. and Harry S Truman and Western Salisbury elementary schools will dismiss 1 p.m. All students will attend Aug. 27 for a full day.

All township schools will be closed Aug. 30 and Sept. 2 for the Labor Day holiday.

Have you been looking for school supply lists? They can be found on the school district website even though it is still under construction. If you type “supply lists” in the search icon, they will pop up by grade. You’re welcome.

The Salisbury soccer team has a few things planned to start the year. First is a car wash fundraiser noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at Big Woody’s, 1841 S. 4th St., Allentown. Second is a girls and boys soccer clinic 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 24 at the high school stadium. The clinic is run by the Salisbury High School coaches and players and is open to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Registration is required. For more information, contact Cherie Pennella at cpennella@salisburysd.org.

The Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church Summer Concert Series continues. The next concert will be 3 p.m. Aug. 24, with a performance by the Wandering Singers. There will be a performance by the woodwind group Recordante, directed by Karen El Chaar, 7 p.m. Aug. 29.

The Devonshire Drop-off will be open Aug. 17, 20, 22 and 26. Hours of operation for Salisbury residents are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday and Saturday of the month. Evening hours are 3-6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays. Please Note: I previously had this listed as being open until 9 p.m. They are only open until 6 p.m. Also, August is the last month for evening hours.
