House fire prompts neighbor evacuation

As dawn broke Aug. 6, Catasauqua Fire Department raced to a reported fire in the 100 block of Howertown Road.

Firefighters woke up neighbors and asked them to evacuate. Neighbors reported seeing smoke but no flames.

The home is occupied by a family of seven who had the property remodeled about six years ago. The second and third floors of the home were deemed uninhabitable.

The Red Cross and local assistance teams were on the scene to take care of the family.

The fire is being investigated. Fire Chief Richard Hertzog said he will release a full report once the investigation is complete.
