Camp Jefferson: Kids have fun at Dutch Springs

As the summer months reach their end, we take time to reflect on the seventh week at Camp Jefferson.

We may well start by addressing the massive inflatable elephant in the room - that being our field trip to Dutch Springs. For our campers, this was one of the most anticipated excursions of the whole eight weeks. For those who may be unfamiliar, Dutch Springs is a massive playground set afloat. Whether running across the obstacle courses, climbing up the inflatables or just going for a swim, everyone had a great time under the sun.

The favorite of these attractions seemed to be “the blob.” This gargantuan air bag allows pairs of friends to send themselves flying through the air and into the water. Once the swimming and climbing grew too exhausting, many of our campers took time to unwind by the snack stand.

Although Dutch Springs is a massive park, campers’ smiles and laughter could not be contained by it. The whole week was full of exciting games and time spent at the pool. It wouldn’t be a week at Camp Jefferson if there was no dodgeball or Capture the Flag - but a different game seemed to be on the campers’ minds this week. Led by Sebastian O. and Danny L., many of the Jefferson campers spent hours at the basketball courts throughout the week.

Between games and activities, Camp Jefferson also participated in a different form of craft, a scavenger hunt.

To top it all off, our theme this week was head-to-toe color. Campers came on Friday donning their favorite shades and hues.

However, all the fun and laughter turned bittersweet on Friday when Camp Whitehall said goodbye to some familiar faces as they advanced into high school this coming year. Thanks to Vinson E. and our boy Camper of the Week, Danny L., for spending your summers with us at Camp Whitehall. Our girl Camper of the Week went to Leah T.

As we come down to our final week, I would personally like to thank all the counselors, campers, parents, etc., for making my time at Camp Whitehall a memorable one. It’s been an honor to be a counselor for these past years. Since this is the last article I will write as a member of the team, I thought it would be fitting to wish everyone the best of luck in these last few days of summer and in the upcoming school year.
