Summer events volunteers needed

The Freemansburg Borough Council gathered last month to plan for upcoming township events.

The Freemansburg Police Department hosted the fifth annual National Night Out Against Crime. The event aims to create a safer community by strengthening the relationships between the FPD and Freemansburg Borough.

Council encouraged families to come out for a night of food, drinks and entertainment. Activities included inflatables, face-painting, carnival games, raffle prizes and more. The event also had educational booths where families could learn more about the Freemansburg Police and Fire Departments as well as the Emergency Medical Services team.

October’s Fall Fest is on its way. Past festivals have included food vendors, crafters, face painters, caricatures artist, inflatables, games, arts and crafts, costume contests for kids and pets, prizes and more.

The annual Fall Fest will take place Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. at the Freemansburg Municipal Park. Admission is free.

Volunteers are still needed to help set up the Fall Fest. Those interested can contact the Borough Council Assistant Secretary Justine Rossi at jrossi@boroughoffreemansburg.org.

The council approved the 2019 road paving project that’ll improve streets throughout Freemansburg. Gaver Industries Inc. (Barker and Barker Paving) offered the lowest bid at $73,965. The company will meet with the Borough Engineer and Borough Representatives prior to construction.

The council also passed a motion for Councilman Gerald Yob to attend the upcoming 2019 PSAB Fall Leadership Conference from Oct. 11 to 13 in State College.

According to Boroughs.org, the PSAB’s main goals are “to provide legislative/regulatory representation at both the state and federal levels, to promote constructive and cooperative relationships among boroughs and between PSAB and other levels of government, to deliver training and technical assistance to borough officials and to provide cost-effective programs and services.”

The next council meeting will take place Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Freemansburg municipal building.
