Eagle awards presented at dinner

Three young men from Troop 899 achieved Scouting’s highest rank from Minsi Trails Council Scoutreach, a special Eagle Scout court of honor and recognition dinner.

Angel Herrera, Steven Basic and Reynaldo Nazario received their accolades at Freemansburg Borough Hall July 25 with friends and family in attendance.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank a youth can earn in the Boy Scouts of America. Scoutreach is beneficial for youth, families, and communities. Minsi Trails Council’s Scoutreach program brings the fun, character building, leadership development, and achievement benefits of Scouting to at-risk youth as an after-school program.

Scoutreach helps ensure scouting is available to all youth regardless of economic ability and provides a safe environment for youth to participate right in their own schools.

Angel Herrera started scouting in the third grade at Freemansburg ES. He held the leadership position of Den Chief and completed National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). He was selected by his peers to join the Order of the Arrow, the BSA’s National Honor Society, composed of scouts who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. He is currently enrolled at East Stroudsburg University.

Steven Basic was first introduced to the scouting program at Freemansburg in first grade when he joined as a Tiger Scout. He has held leadership positions as assistant and senior patrol leader and was selected as a member of the Order of the Arrow. After high school he plans to attend college to study chemical engineering, with aspirations of becoming a petroleum engineer and working with natural fuels.

Reynaldo Nazario began started scouting in the third grade at Lincoln ES with Cubmaster Jessenia Roman. With his Cubmaster’s encouragement, he continued with scouting and found his scouting family with Cub and ScoutMaster Sharon Diaspe with Troop 899. He is a proud member of the Order of the Arrow and completed National Youth Leadership Training.

All three scouts thanked their families, troop members and mentors for help throughout their journey, along with a personal story on why they either kept pushing through or what they have gained from scouts throughout the years.
