Wasyl Hewko, 96, of Northampton, died July 27, 2019, at Fellowship Manor. He was the husband of Elaine (Gereg) Hewko for 51 years.
Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Aksenty and Anna (Brodetky) Hewko.
He was in the U.S. Navy.
He was a funeral assistant at Reichel Funeral Home Inc., Northampton, for 25 years. He worked at Western Electric for 26 years.
He was a member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Northampton.
He worked the sideline chains, known as the Chain Gang, for Northampton Area High School football games. He was a member of the Saints Peter and Paul Hungarian Society; the Telephone Pioneers retirement group and the Young At Heart senior group. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714, Northampton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Stephanie Nederostek; nieces; and nephews.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Alex, Peter, Ben and John; and three sisters, Pauline, Mary and Olga.
There will be a calling time noon-2 p.m., followed by a funeral service 2 p.m., Aug. 1 at the funeral home, 326 E. 21 St., Northampton.
Contributions may be made to the church, 1301 Newport Ave., Northampton.
