Borough Manager Chris Boehm announced her retirement during the July 1 council meeting. Her retirement date is Jan. 31, 2020 with her last day in the office Dec. 31. Boehm has been the borough manager for 20 years.
“It has been a privilege and a pleasure to serve this community,” Boehm said. She also said she leaves a dedicated and qualified staff of which she has had the pleasure and privilege to work with for over 20 years. “I couldn’t have asked for a better team,” Boehm said.
Meals on Wheels requested a donation from the borough. Council responded by saying it is not in the budget but they will consider making it a budget item for 2020.
Mayor Ronald Conrad reminded residents parking in front of a driveway is not allowed.
A lower construction cost for the Cotton Street pedestrian bridge is being sought. Prices are ranging from $4,000 to $10,000. A resident asked if a study was ever done to see how many people use this road. To date, vehicular traffic is using this road less since the light was installed at Church and Main streets. The resident said the bridge is a waste of money.
Council President Chris Becker said if Macungie does not want the grant, this would send a negative message out for future grants.
Council voted to move forward with the Cotton Street Bridge construction.
A resident had filed an appeal for repair and installation for a sidewalk. She has withdrawn the appeal.
Macungie Borough’s Streetscape Project continues as the borough is preparing to plant the street trees and add street lights. Phase 3 and 4 were discussed with Phase 4 involving a grant application.
