National Night Out set for Aug. 6

Freemansburg Borough Council announced July 2 the police department will be hosting the fifth annual National Night Out Against Crime in August. The event aims to create a safer community by strengthening the relationships between police and residents.

All are invited for a family-friendly night of food, drinks and entertainment. Activities will include inflatables, face-painting, carnival games, raffle prizes and more.

The event will also have educational booths where families can learn more about the Freemansburg police and fire departments as well as the Emergency Medical Services team. Other booths will educate on topics such as opiate awareness and crime victim councils.

National Night Out is scheduled for Aug. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the municipal park, which was recently renamed in honor of longtime public servant, borough council member and former mayor Gerald Yob.

Two Freemansburg police officers, Kevin Foster and Mauro Conte, will be attending the Weights and Measures Program in Pittsburgh through July 18. The program will train both officers to enforce vehicle weight restrictions and create safer roadways.
