LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

July 4th activities reviewed

The city of Bethlehem’s annual fireworks will be held at approximately 9:15 p.m. July 4 or, in case of inclement weather, at the same time on July 5. Prior to the fireworks display, the Bethlehem Municipal Band will perform a free concert featuring patriotic music and old favorites at 7:30 p.m. at the City Center Plaza.

As the fireworks are fired from Sand Island east, that area will be closed to the public beginning at noon on July 4. The tennis courts will be closed the entire day.

The city Fire Marshal noted that, as of October 2017, consumer grade fireworks are legal to purchase and possess across the State of Pennsylvania ,but their use remains limited by state law. To use consumer fireworks, a person must be 18 years of age or older and may not intentionally ignite or discharge consumer fireworks or novelty sparkling devices between the hours of 9 p.m. and 9 a.m.; on public or private property without the express permission of the owner; within, or from a motor vehicle or building; into or at a motor vehicle or building or at another person; while the person is under the influence of alcohol, a controlled substance or another drug; or within 150 feet of an occupied structure (defined by state law as a structure, vehicle or place adapted for overnight accommodation of persons or for conducting business whether or not a person is actually present).
