Ronald E. Kern, 81, of Lower Macungie Township, died June 21, 2019, at home. He was the husband of Joanne M. Kern for 60 years.

Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Emil and Louise Stutzenberger Kern.

He was a 1956 graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School and attended Penn State University.

He was employed as a manufacturing engineer at Mack Trucks and retired in 1996. Previously, he worked at Air Products and Chemicals.

He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Emmaus.

He coached Emmaus Youth Association baseball and softball teams for many years.

He was a member of the Mack Management Club and the St. Ann’s Prime Timers. He volunteered at Lehigh Valley Health Network, the Allentown Area Ecumenical Food Bank and St. Ann’s Fall Fest.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Ronald J. and his wife Michele of Woodstock, Ga., and Thomas D. and his wife Kathy of Cornelius, N.C.; a daughter, Karen and her husband Timothy Wilson of Hershey; eight grandchildren, Lauren, Justin, Taylor, Jacob, Corinne, Joseph, Katelyn and Sophia; a brother, James and his wife Betty of Whitehall; a sister, Linda Kremposky of Florida; and a sister-in-law, Eleanore Cosmos of Emmaus.
