MACUNGIE BOROUGH COUNCIL

During the June 17 meeting, there was additional input about the pedestrian bridge on Cotton Street. The idea of this bridge was considered for developing connectivity and walkability which is the purpose of the bridge. It has been a long-term goal.

Residents complained about the proposed construction; others suggested the bridge should be constructed for safety reasons. It is still an issue over lack of funds. A grant was received but it does not pay for the bridge in full.

A motion was made to not go forward with the bridge and there were two ayes and three nays. Then a motion was made to carry it forward looking for cheaper prices for construction. This motion was approved.

An issue with noise was discussed at an earlier meeting. This has been referred to the police as the situation has escalated. It was said threats were made and vulgar and explicit language was used in front of kids. There is very loud music and dogs running all over the place. Residents have attempted to rationalize with the people and this goes nowhere. It was said a nuisance can be anything that annoys a neighbor such as music, noise, dogs, etc.

The residents have been told to just keep referring these situations to the police.

A traffic light for West End Trail and Macungie Commons was approved.

Richard Miller, Bill Henry and Joel Kenridge graduated from a firefighting course. A total of 940 man hours are necessary to complete this course.

There was continued discussion on whether Macungie should have a police chief.

There are 16 ADA ramps to be completed. A grant was received but it is not enough to do all the ramps so another grant will be sought.

Out of Our Minds Art Studio will hold the first annual Chalk the Walk 9 a.m. to noon June 22 at the Macungie Fire Company. Artists ages six years through adult are invited to register for one of a limited number of sidewalk blocks and showcase their chalk art skills. Cash prizes will be awarded. The rain date is June 23.

Ken Nicholson submitted his resignation; he held the position of zoning/code enforcement.
