Motorists driving through South Whitehall Township will soon be seeing new welcome signs with a covered bridge image.

At a recent commissioners’ meeting, Director of Operations Randy Cope stated the new signs will replace the existing ones and will continue the branding efforts of the township.

Commissioners approved the purchase of 25 signs at a cost of $4,200. Public works staff will install the signs.

In another matter, commissioners approved David F. Wilson to fill a vacancy on the Civil Service Commission.

A civil engineer, Wilson is a graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School, Lehigh University and Villanova.

At South Whitehall, the Civil Service Commission is involved in the hiring of police officers.

In other business, Stephen Carr, of the finance department, reported Boyle Construction Management, MKSD Architects and Pidcock Engineering were selected for the Campus Master Plan project.

The undertaking will include additions and renovations expected to cost between $7.5 million and $8.8 million.

Carr stated Scott Boehret has been hired to fill a new position in the financial department.

In another matter, commissioners honored Gerald Harbison who is retiring after 31 years of service to the township.

Board President Christina “Tori” Morgan offered remarks.

“Since Jerry started here in 1988, he has seen every aspect of community development. He has been extremely important, and his historical knowledge is unsurpassed,” Morgan said.

Township engineer Ralph Russek also gave kudos to Harbison.

“I don’t know anyone more dedicated to upholding the standards of this community than Jerry Harbison.”
