LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Marian E. Bond

Marian Eliza Bond, 96, a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and longtime resident of Kempton, died May 29, 2019, in Country Meadows, Wyomissing.

She was the widow of Nevin Alfred Bond, who predeceased her on May 24, 1980.

Born Sept. 4, 1922, on the family farm in Jacksonville, she was the daughter and first born of five children of the late Edwin H. and Annie G. (Krick) Fetherolf.

She and her siblings attended the one-room country schoolhouse near her home and later rode the “Berksy,” a train that transported students from the Kempton area to Slatington to attend school.

She was a 1938 graduate of Slatington High School.

She met Nevin, a fellow student and the man who would become her husband, on the Berksy.

They married on Christmas Eve 1942, in Kempton. Together, in the ensuing years, they raised six children.

She was a stay-at-home mom in the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s.

Being a wife and mother was a full-time job, and her proudest achievement was that of a homemaker and caring for the family.

When the children were older, she worked outside the home for a period of eight years as a sewing machine operator at the former Kempton Sportswear, Lynnville.

A member of New Bethel Church, Kempton, and the Kempton Red Hat Society, she was a former member of the Kempton Lioness Club, and for 35 years, she served as a clerk of elections for Albany Township.

In her lifetime, she was fortunate to have traveled to many destinations in the states and to other countries.

She loved social outings with friends, family gatherings and seeing her family grow through the years.

In addition to her children, she was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Her greatest gift in life was the unconditional love she had for her whole family. She gave generously to all of them.

She was a beautiful lady and her family rejoices in her long life, which was filled with love for all.

Her survivors include a daughter, Rosemary, wife of Jay C. Drey of Kutztown; sons, Jeffrey N. of Kempton, David M. and his wife Deborah (May) of Kempton, Gary E. and his wife Jan (Grater) of Kutztown, Jonathan C. and his wife Kelly (Marquette) of Kempton; and daughter-in-law Riemke J.
