Coplay: Borough groups meet May 30

Storytime will be held 11 a.m. May 30 at Coplay Public Library, 49 S. Fifth St.

Coplay Garden Club meets 7 p.m. May 30 in the social hall at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St.

Explorer Scouts of Model Railroad Explorer Post 101 meets 7:30 p.m. May 30 on the second floor of borough hall, 98 S. Fourth St.

Suburban North Family YMCA is offering a new weekly camp program at Saylor Park in Coplay for children ages 5-14 years beginning June 17 and ending Aug. 16.

Camp is held 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Campers will participate in a variety of activities, including theme weeks, nature adventures, sports, arts and crafts, special events, water games and daily swim time at Coplay’s Parkway Pool.

Registration is due one week before the start of camp, and you only pay for the days your child attends.

The YMCA provides financial assistance to qualified individuals. To see if you qualify, pick up an application, visit gv-ymca.org or call 610-264-5221.

There will be a large 150th anniversary celebration June 15 at Samuel Balliet Stadium.

The schedule includes food, entertainment and a fireworks display.

Coplay’s pool is scheduled to open June 17.

The June and August hours are noon-7 p.m. In July, the pool will be open noon-8 p.m.

Season swimming passes are available at the borough hall office on South Fourth Street.

For the third consecutive summer, the popular aqua Zumba classes will be held.

The sessions are 6-7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday evenings starting June 17.

The Exchange Club Foundation of Western Lehigh is sponsoring the 12th annual sporting clays fundraiser for the prevention of child abuse, to be held Sept. 13 at Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays, 2750 Limestone St.

Registration and continental breakfast begins 8 a.m., and the shoot begins 9:30 a.m. Lunch immediately follows the competition.

The individual shooter fee includes 100 clays, shells, food, prizes and awards. Squads of five shooters are also welcome.

Firefighters rescue a dog from a house fire at 17 S. Fifth St., Coplay, May 21. The fire is reported to have started approximately 7 p.m. in the kitchen of the house. No one was home at the time. Three dogs were saved from the fire. Copyright - Scott M. Nagy
