North Whitehall offering junior emergency responder academy to township youth

Hosted by the emergency services - Laurys Station, Neffs, Schnecksville, and Tri-Clover Fire Companies, Northern Valley EMS and South Whitehall Police Department, which serve North Whitehall Township, there will be a one-week academy 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 24-28, The academy, at the Tri-Clover Fire Station, 4801 Kernsville Road, Orefield, is open to North Whitehall Township youth ages 12-16.

Throughout the week, Junior Emergency Responders will experience what it is like to be a firefighter, EMT and police officer in a camp-like atmosphere.

Each junior responder will receive a shirt and other give-aways. Daily routine will include interactive activities, new learning experiences, and demonstrations by local firefighters, emergency medical responders, police, and other emergency providers as well as lunch and break times.

Junior Emergency Responders will receive experiences in the areas of:

·Fire Prevention/Safety/Arson Dog

·Crime Prevention/Awareness/Police Visit

·CPR/First Aid, includes Certification

·Fire Service Tools and Equipment

·Hands on Firefighting Skills

·Search and Rescue

Junior emergency responders will participate in a skill challenge and a graduation ceremony on June 28.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend this ceremony which will include lunch.

The camp has no registration fee thanks to donations from the community.
