Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St., Catasauqua, holds a Victorian tea event as part of its spring fundraising effort. This year, the proceeds went to the Public Library of Catasauqua.
Before the tea party, which was held April 27, the church set up a basket display with a selection of nearly 100 options. Add in a variety of gift cards and local craft items, and there is chance for getting a dream gift. Those invited to the tea can put in their tickets for the raffle.
Reservations were needed, and spots for next year will be filled by February.
Women in their millinery finest are permitted to sit at the tables.
Servers are volunteers, also dressed in their finest, to make the Victorian tea event authentic.
“We still like to see hats; unfortunately, that tradition is fading. We don’t get reasonable access to hats like you see at royal English parties,” Rena Bond said.
All the pastries accompanying the tea are homemade. The servers get to enjoy any leftovers.
To keep the tradition alive for future generations, Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church has a junior Victorian tea event scheduled for 3-5 p.m. June 8. Doors open 2:30 p.m. for a basket raffle.
Dads, sons and grandsons are welcome, too.
