Gordon “Gordy” Bender, 101, died May 16, 2019. He was the husband of the late Helen (Burnell) Bender for 57 years.

He was a son of the late William and Lotte Bender and grew up in Catasauqua.

He was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II.

He worked at Mack Trucks from the age of 18 until he retired.

He helped to organize the United Auto Workers for which he was a shop steward for many years.

He is survived by three children, Barbara and her husband Barry Gordon, Marsha and her husband Steven Johnson and Gary and his wife Linda Bender; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Lester, Romaine and Kenneth.
