Earl D. Smoyer

Earl D. Smoyer, 88, of South Whitehall Township, died May 17, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Allentown campus. He was the husband of the late Virginia (Hebig) Smoyer.

Born in Bath, he was a son of the late Howard D. and Gladys I. (Miller) Smoyer.

A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict, he served aboard the USS Samuel B. Roberts.

The longtime head custodian for Kratzer Elementary School in the Parkland School District, he retired in 1993.

He was a member of Nativity Lutheran Church, Allentown, where he sang with the choir. He was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Allentown, where he sang with the choir and was a member of the church council.

He was a member of Fullerton American Legion Post 367 where he served as a member of the honor guard. He was also a 32nd degree Mason of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction.

He is survived by a daughter, Barbara A. and her husband Gary C. Fasolka of South Whitehall Township; five grandchildren, Suzanne Fasolka of Northampton, Jackie Fasolka of Philadelphia, Brian Fasolka of New York City, Hilari and her husband Nick Takacs of Northampton and Lauren House of Philadelphia; and four great-grandchildren, Elaina, Kendall, Alex and Anthony.

He was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey D.

There will be a calling time 10-11 a.m., followed by services 11 a.m., May 24 at Nativity Lutheran Church, 4004 Tilghman St., Allentown, 18104.

Contributions may be made to the church or to Kratzer Elementary School PTO, 2200 Huckleberry Road, Allentown, 18104.
