Business, home to get upgrades

The Historical and Architectural Review Board quickly approved signage for 512 Main St. at the May 1 meeting held in the Rotunda. Representing Knobs ’N Knockers, Matthew Mantz was accompanied by Brian Rodenbach from Valley Wide Signs. They were granted a certificate of appropriateness for an 18-inch by 24-inch oval two-sided sign with the serif font company logo in brown on an off-white background to hang from an existing decorative bracket. Also approved was a 19-inch by 144.25-inch storefront sign spelling out “Knobs ’N Knockers” in black. Vinyl letters for “Fine Decorative Hardware” and other window signage was approved after the applicants agreed to use a serif font.

The former home of JewelWerks, the building is owned by JAD Investors.

Representing 72 East Market St., interior designer David Hausman scored a COA for two door replacement proposals for the Colonial Revival house, owned by Rod and Lori Young. The first proposal involved swapping locations for an existing door and transom with an existing window and dairy access panel located underneath it. Both are positioned along a side porch, with access to a newly-renovated kitchen. The door would be replaced with a custom wood door with a single glass panel and a wood screen door. The transom would be reinstalled above the new entry door. The window is to be removed and the dairy access panel would be reinstalled in the former doorway.

Hausman was also granted approval to replace a door at the rear façade with a wood door and screen door matching the set for the side porch. New paint is to match existing colors.

Christine Ussler from Artefact, Inc. received permission to supplant a deteriorated 6-foot high wood fence with a 6-foot brick wall and brick expressed piers at the rear of 131 E. Church St., around an in-ground pool. The brick and mortar of the fencing are to replicate the masonry on the house and topped with precast stone caps. Aluminum fencing and gates that mimic wrought iron are also to be installed.

The owner of the property is listed as River Properties, LLC.

Andrew Grason easily won approval to paint his townhouse façade and wood trim at 8 W. Church St. a beige-like custom color labeled “Cashmere,” which was chosen from a palette of historically-appropriate colors.

Walk-in Selina Hill, assisted by Barbara Warden, was allowed to proceed with badly-needed roof repairs for her home at 35 E. Market St. When she informed the board that GAF Slateline “Slate Gray” was discontinued, they agreed to approve “Antique Slate” from the GAF Slateline options for the main roof. The porch roof is to have modified asphalt roofing installed instead of a previously-planned EPDM rubber membrane. Hill cited the potential for punctures from limbs falling from a nearby tree for the change.

The voting for all the projects was unanimous.
