On the surface, Catasauqua’s results at the recent Colonial League meet may not catch a lot of attention.

But to the Roughies’ staff, the results were impressive. They could lead to some notable finishes at the District 11 meet this week.

“We had so many kids who got their PRs (personal records), and they also set some school records,” said head coach Kyle Rusnock. “It really went pretty well for us.

“They have just kept building on their times and distances over the past few weeks and it has paid off for them.”

Jaekwan Moodie was the highest Roughie finisher as he recorded a third-place in the long jump with a distance of 21-2.

“He (Moodie) stopped his first two jumps then he hit the 20 mark to get into the finals,” stated Rusnock. “He did well in the finals and he should be a contender for districts.”

Tory Simmons also had a good day for the Roughies as she finished fourth in the javelin with a toss of 108-11, a new school record.

“Tory (Simmons) has really done a nice job this season,” added Rusnock. “She really has worked hard and has been throwing consistently over 100 feet. I think she also will do well in districts.”

Lexi Rushatz had another busy afternoon, as she finished fifth in the 3,200, seventh in the 1,600, and eighth in both the 400 and 800 races. Rushatz set school records in the 3,200 (1:27.03), 400 (1:03.11), and 800 (2:31.35). Breonna Brinkley also became a new holder in the 400 (1:08.07)

“(Rushatz) scores a lot of points for us,” said Rusnock. “She ran very well, but her fields are very competitive. She set PRs in her events. She is running against some very good girls, but I think she can make some noise at districts.”

Rusnock also likes the chances of Trinity Kern, Wilquon Clemons, and Amy Huber in the hurdles. Kern set a new school record of 51.08 in the 300 hurdles, and Clemons registered a new mark in the same event (43.07). Kern was fifth and Clemons was eighth overall. Huber, who finished 10th in the 100 hurdles, will also run in the 300 hurdles.

Clemons also set a new school record in the 100 (11.58).

Montana Muller set a new school mark of 8-3 in the pole vault and she finished eighth overall. Muller finished eighth overall.

Other individuals and teams that set new school records were Joseph Merkel, 110 hurdles (18.25), Matt Smith, 800 (2:11.34), and the 4x100 relay (46.55) and 4x800 relay (9:47.53). Merkel also broke the mark in the 300 hurdles (44.25).

“They all really did a great job,” said Rusnock. “We have a lot to be proud of this season and we may have some more after districts.”
