Coplay council to take longer look at Quik Tickets
At its workshop meeting May 7, Coplay Borough Council questioned the use of Quik Tickets for minor code violations. The borough passed an ordinance last year to allow authorized people in the borough to issue tickets. The purpose of the ticket is to add some enforcement to repeat code offenders without going to the magisterial district judge.
As Councilman Charles Sodl pointed out, there are easily noticeable minor code violations and few tickets are issued. So far, no tickets have been issued in 2019. Four tickets were issued in 2018. There seem to be coordination problems with the tickets, and the implementation is something to be addressed.
Council will meet in executive session to address the program’s coordination and implementation.
The process may not be clear, but residents who ignore minor violations such as garbage strewn around the property, grass clippings placed in the street, etc., can expect to see more notices.
Betty Remaly and Donna DeLucia asked council members about the status of their aerobics class, a well- attended program that has been a fixture in the municipal building for decades. Classes are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The program differs from the other athletic events since it is a borough function. A problem arose for the group when the class read the new security measures for athletic uses of the gym. The aerobics class did not fit in the use description.
“We received all the equipment we have from the borough, and the money we collect we turn over to the borough,” DeLucia said.
Council President Louis Bodish said the classes can continue as they are until council can get clarification from the solicitor on how to handle the matter. There is no intention to end the classes, he added.
The official season opening of Coplay’s Parkway Pool is set for June 17. The concession stand will be run by The Bacon Strip.
Council agreed to purchase a new defibrillator for use at the pool. The old one is scheduled for replacement. Pool staff will be trained to use the new device.
